About Alethea.
“Alethea means truth and this is mine”. Seattle-born, Jakarta-raised R&B artist Elaine Alethea uses this phrase as her musical identity as she strives to spread her truth through her craft in hopes to inspire the youth and raise awareness on mental health. Growing up without a sense of identity, Elaine Alethea struggled to find her purpose only to find her true self in music and performance. Leaving behind her degree in Business Administration, Alethea pursues her dream by enrolling in Berklee College of Music with expected graduation in 2023.
Elaine Alethea thrives to be out of the ordinary by mixing R&B, Neo Soul, Pop, Jazz, and Indonesian Pop in her music. Just like how she was brought in various backgrounds, she wants her music to portray everything she is. She was included in the top 10 artists to look out for by local Indonesian news outlets. Her music is slowly rising in the charts, making its way comforting the youth through honest experiences that listeners find relatable. Her debut album, Alethea, made it to the top 50 iTunes chart in Indonesia. She also had recently launched The Alethea Project which serves as a safe space for the youth to share with one another and strengthen the community.
Raised with a rich Chinese-Indonesian heritage while being an American citizen, Alethea had the privilege to gain influences from many cultures. Her biggest influences were from K-pop, Traditional Gospel, Indonesian Gospel, CCM, Neo Soul, and more. She recalls her first experience listening to Erykah Badu’s Certainly and how she was left in awe of her style and confidence and how it reached her as a listener which led her to the road of R&B and Neo Soul. Alethea hopes to continue bringing her truth through her music and that listeners will feel healing.
